Wendell Wallace Update 8/28/09

Postby imrdirtcars on Tue Aug 04, 2009 6:54 am

Well, construction has begun on the Wendell Wallace's 2007 Rocket.

I started the decals this evening, still a ways to go. I'm glad i did do the decals first, as it made me realize how i'm going to need to paint the body for the best finished product.

The slight fade you see will actually be airbrushed on the body itself, rather then done in a decal. It will allow for a smoother transition since a printed decal would be pixelated.

Mike,

Looks good. Black and orange will show very well!

A good choice of replica to whomever ordered it.

I'm pretty excited about the Wallace Replica.. I can't wait to do the fluorescent orange decals for it.. they won't show in photos probably.. but in person it's going to really be nice.

I'm going to experiment with a blacklight for taking photos of cars with fluoro decals to make them show up more in photos..

we'll see how it turns out!

I've also made some progress on the Wendell Wallace decals. I often work on decals at the end of the day when i'm too tired to work on the cars themselves. On the computer I have an UNDO button if i make a mistake because i'm tired.. so it's a good end of day.

I was stuck for a while because i KNEW i'd seen the font used for the C.W. CULVERT before, and i knew i had it SOMEWHERE.

Well, today after work i was digging through an old font collection and sure enough found it.

I'm glad i found it, because anything else wouldn't do it due justice. Still a few more contingency sponsors to do on the side, then off to the nose and roof decals.

I've been silent the past few days, but i've still been productive.

I hung the rear suspension on the Wendell Wallace car, as it was ready to go. While i've been waiting for the paint for the Moyer frame to arrive, and the reference photos on the Mueller car, i've been concentrating on the Wallace car since the frame was already painted and ready to go.

I pulled out the cockpit that was in it originally (for the Steve Francis car), and replaced it with a black version to match Wendell's scheme.

The rear end is probably the most complex piece on the whole replica, the number of parts required to build one is pretty extreme. It's really nice when it all comes together.

What i'm really trying to do with the Wallace car, is use different blacks (flat, gloss, satin) as well as some different silvers to give everything depth and visual appeal. I don't want everything to be a black blob where all the parts blend together. I'll do this on the Bloomquist cars as well.
